Arijit Singh was born on 25 April 1987, in Jiaganj, Murshidabad, West Bengal to Punjabi father and Bengali mother. His father is LIC agent while the mother is a homemaker. Arijit Singh got a primary education in music from the family by the maternal uncle and aunt.He was taught Indian classical music by Rajendra Prasad Hazari and trained in tabla by Dhirendra Prasad Hazari. Birendra Prasad Hazari taught him Rabindra Sangeet (songs written and composed by Rabindranath Tagore) and pop music. At the age of three, he started training under the Hazari brothers, and at the age of nine, he got a scholarship from the government for training in vocals in Indian classical music. Arijit Singh is an Indian music composer and playback singer who appeared on the television screen by a reality show. He participated in a music talent hunt Fame Gurukul in 2005. He participated in another reality show 10 Ke 10 Le Gaye Dil and won. Later Arijit appeared as the assistance of famous music director Pritam Chakraborty and gradually changed his destiny in the music arena. Arijit Singh is a same popular in Kolkata music industry as like Bollywood. There are some hit songs of Arijit Singh in the Kolkata’s films. Arijit's breakthrough came in Aashiqui 2 where he was a lead and key vocalist and came to prominence with the release of the song "Tum Hi Ho" from the movie.[37] The song won him several awards and nominations including Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer. In an interview with The Times of India, Singh mentioned that he has a "natural voice" and said he did nothing special to maintain it. He has described his voice as "nasal" and believes that it matches with all the actors. According to Arijit Singh, apart from being a singer, he is a badminton player, a writer, a movie freak and a documentary maker.[67] He also likes cricket, football and his favorite sportsmen are Sachin Tendulkar, Lance Klusener, Sourav Ganguly, and Jonty Rhodes. He is an ardent football fan, and a self-proclaimed Manchester United fan. He has also expressed a wish to sing the anthem for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. In badminton, he likes Saina Nehwal.

He married Koel Roy on 20 January 2014 in Tarapith temple, West Bengal who is his childhood friend and a neighbour of his and it is his second marriage. They have two children. Singh currently resides in Andheri, Mumbai.
